Dear Family & Friends,
Just back from Burlington and meeting with Dr. Paul Unger, Oncologist. Meeting went well and was less emotional for Craig & me that I might have been anticipating [that said, I’m dead tired now and about to take a nap, so perhaps it took a bigger toll on me than I actually felt].
Not all the pathology is in yet but what there is points pretty clearly to a diagnosis of either ovarian cancer or cancer of the sack/skin (heck, something that starts with a ‘P’). [Peritoneal] Either way, the procedures are the same.
No surgery on the horizon just yet. He wants to get this fluid out of my abdomen and chemo will target that. He hopes to start me on chemo in Middlebury on Monday. And he is also going to work to get me in for another draining of the fluid on my abdomen – a ‘tap’ 🙂 The tap I had last Thursday had me feeling GREAT for a couple of days, so I’m all for that.
Some of you are going to want to know numbers, so let me share the few numbers I have:
- CA-125 = 65
- Cancer is Stage III. That’s not a nice sounding number, but with all this fluid (the drained stuff did contain cancer cells) I wasn’t especting a nicer number like Stage I.
That’s pretty much it. I’m off for a nap. I plan to be at work tomorrow.
Love,
Anne/Tammi
