It’s been awhile since I flunked a test…

Haven’t been in the habit of flunking tests in my life, but yesterday I flunked my bloodtest. The pesky old Neutrophils dropped to a new low of 0.8 and that number disqualified me from getting Chemo #7 yesterday. Neutrophils do something to produce white blood cells and might be made by my bone marrow.  Got my BA in Literature, not a BS in Medicine so this stuff is pretty much Greek to me.

Anyway, the bad news is that I do not get Chemo this week – or is that the Good News? Rather pleasant, I’d say. Will stay around home for the rest of the week and take it easy.

I hope a little rest will get you feeling good and bring your numbers where they need to be. It sounds exhausting…

Hope a little rest will do you good. It is a little bit hard for me to understand all this medical stuff in english, but what I can understand is that a lot is happening in your body. Let’s hope a week of rest will do you good, so you can pick up your chemo round again and finish it off. Turn your chair around so you can watch your garden (are your tulips coming up yet ?). Here spring is coming (some days), we are ready for it. Take care Tammi!

I’ll bet it feels good to have a little rest. That chemo…it’s powerful stuff. I’ve been watching your blood numbers like a hawk, and I’m happy that they were true to their word, that when you numbers went below the tolerating threshold, you get a break.

Enjoy the weekend, guys. I hope to see you very soon.

bone marrow makes your blood cells, both red and white. the red carries oxygen around your body. the white fight infection. neutrophils are grown up (mature) white blood cells – one kind anyway, as there are several kinds, all with their own little jobs to do. chemotherapy suppresses your bone marrow and makes it stop making cells for a while. when the white blood cell count goes down, you lose a line of defense against infections so they have to wait for a while to allow your bone marrow to make some more which it can’t do when the chemotherapy is telling it not to. so they hold the chemo for a while. don’t think of it as flunking and BTW, medicine is not a BS, it’s an MD – i oughta know, i have one LOL. i didn’t know you were a BA in literature. learning all kinds of stuff about you here, tammi 🙂 i do have a BS in psych – that sounds funny, doesn’t it? hahaha…. incidentally, i am writing this from la trappe creek. was thinking about you guys and the time that you were here. love the banner pic with the kayak, ballew and you! anyway, rest well and remember, don’t let anyone cough on you!

      LaTrappe Creek!!!! Major SIGH. 😉
Thanks for the explanation about the Nertraphils. That is the most understandable explanation ever.
Saw a bunch of Rossie people yesterday, but Grandpa LobsterTales didn’t show. Pity!

Seems like a good week to rest at home. Sunshine and warmth. Try to enjoy it. Breathe deeply.
