Smuggler’s Notch Trip & Chemo #3

Our apartment at Smuggler's Notch Resort

Some fun has been had since my last post!
Last Sunday we joined my high school girlfriends Jackie and Sharon, along with Sharon’s husband Jim, for our annual ‘Girlfriend’s Trip’. Sharon and Jim had arranged for us to stay at a beautiful apartment at the Smuggler’s Notch Ski Resort in Stowe, Vermont. I didn’t know if my energy level would be up to this sort of adventure but being with Jackie and Sharon is always magic for me and this time was no exception. From the moment we arrived I felt great.

From time to time I completely forgot about any health issues!

Monday dawned cold and wet so we girls headed down the road, through the Notch, to the spa at the Stowe Mountain Resort.

We had ourselves a good time while the men relaxed and hung out back at Smugglers.

Ahhhh, the Spa Life!

Tuesday we headed into Burlington for the day.

Mt. Mansfield - via the Toll Road. Jim, Jackie, Sharon & Craig consult the trail map.

Stunning views!

Wednesday we drove up the Toll Road to the top of Mt. Mansfield. The views from the top are incredible.

Then we took on the Long Trail.

Intrepid hikers!

Then we continued down the road to visit The Trapp Family Lodge and have lunch at the old Tea Room (now a deli/bakery/brewery). It is such a gorgeous spot!

On the way home we took in the Ben & Jerry Factory tour.

Love this wavy-gravy mirror.

Thursday morning came far too quickly! Jim, Sharon and Jackie drove off at 7 a.m., bound for Detroit. Craig and I followed about an hour later, stopping by some covered bridges in Waterville before heading toward Colchester and my third Chemo treatment. The weather was perfect and I was feeling mighty excellent too.

We knew there was a chance that my blood work wouldn’t be good enough for me to get chemo that day, since it had been so borderline the previous week. It was hard to believe I could be feeling so well and still be low on white blood cells …… but who knew?
Sometimes it is worth trusting your gut though. I passed the blood test with flying colors, had a chemo treatment that seemed to zip right by and before we knew it we were headed home to Ballew!

What a wonderful week! Jackie, Sharon and I have been friends for over 50 years. Being with them is the best medicine in the world!

Wow. Looks like a beautiful place. You look great too!
I’m trying to find a time to have you guys over with Pam and Andy before her surgery. Would a weeknight work for you? They are in Canada every weekend until then.
Did you guys catch your woodchuck?

    • Tammi says:

Weeknight would work fine for us. Would love to get together with Pam prior to her surgery.
On the woodchuck front: πŸ™ We thought ours had moved on. Hadn’t seen any evidence of him and were just taking a deep breath till a couple of hours ago when we noticed a big pile of newly dug dirt next to our deck. Grrrrrrrrrrrr. The trap stands empty.

Wow, seems you had a great week and I love the pictures. And…… I recognized the Ben & Jerry’s plant. We visited that just before we came to your house in 2009. Also like the pictures of the covered bridges…..love those. And you had chemo nr. 3. Seems going away for a couple of days is a good medicine :-).
    Keep it up Tam!!
    Love, RenΓ© and Mary

Being away certainly does seem to be good medicine for me! Perhaps we have to come visit you!! I was a Bato groupie so perhaps I must come to the reunion. πŸ™‚

Loved your post and all the gorgeous photos. So glad to see you doing so well, Tammi.
We are back in Vermont and had big graduation celebrations for Heather and Maria this past weekend. This coming weekend it’s two of David’s grandkids turn. Then back to normalcy..whatever that is!
Would you be up for lunch either at Mr. Ups or the Storm Cafe sometime within the next few weeks?

  4. Peter Platt says:

Great photos & we especially love the view from your deck! The spa looked like fun – you deserve a little pampering.

We love that area. Usually, when we stop at Ben & Jerry’s, we’re usually also stopping at Cold Hollow for freshly made cider donuts but I guess that’s just in he Fall.

We’re so glad to hear that it’s going as well as it is. We’re still sending our positive Karma!

ps: so far the Etec is working out well!

I had my first post surgery sighting of you walking with Ballou (sp?) this morning. It made me very happy. You looked beautiful in your spring hat! Seeing you two walking down the road again made it feel like all is right with the world again. It was a ritual I realized I’d been missing- like seeing the sun rise and set each day!
